- In a heavy saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cocoa, cornstarch, and salt until combined.
- Gradually add the milk, whisking until no lumps remain.
- Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly for 1-2 minutes until thickened.
- Remove from heat.
- Stir in the butter and vanilla extract.
- Allow mixture to cool completely, stirring occasionally to avoid a skin forming.
- Pour into individual serving glasses.
